Giant/Martins Foodstore Deals 12/22

Hey everyone! There are some pretty good pre-Christmas grocery deals this week! The circular for Martinsburg, WV came with 4 Dollar Doublers! Which means, used in conjunction with $1 off any item, you get $2 off that item! Sweet! They don't do this too often, so take advantage of it! I've never been successful in using more than four, because my bonus card recognizes it, but some have. Also, most Giant/Martins foodstores double up to $0.99, which is also a great deal. I love it when I have an $0.80 coupon, I get $1.60 off with the automatic doubling! My store only doubles one coupon per item, but Giant/Martins stores can double up to four of the same coupon. Anyway, here are the deals that I picked out. Some require coupons from past newspapers, while others you can download the coupons.

Understanding CVS

Here is a brief overview of CVS, to help you better understand the policies, deals and terminology.

First off - do you have a CVS card? If not, go into any CVS store (or you can do it online, but you have to wait for your card) and fill in the application. With your CVS card, you're able to take advantage of all the deals currently available at CVS (Make sure you always have them scan your card first!), along with obtain ECBs.

What are ECBs you may ask? Extra Care Bucks! These are scrumptious little coupons that print out after a purchase. You can use this coupon on your next purchase just like cash at any CVS. For instance, let's say CVS is advertising "Crest Toothpaste. Buy one at $3.99, get $3.99 ECBs." You purchase said toothpaste and along with your reciept pops an ECB worth $3.99! If you have a $1 coupon on top of that, well, you paid OOP (out of pocket) $2.99 and got back $3.99! FUN! You're now able to take that $3.99 ECB and use it on your next purchase. We would label this as a "money-maker". Although you're not really making cash dollars, you're able to use the ECB to further your savings on future purchases.

An even more in depth look into how to use CVS to it's greatest potential can be found at >MoneySavingMoms blog, here. I suggest reading it!

The Savings Lingo

Here are some couponing terms and abbreviations!

AC = After Coupon
AR = After Rebate
BLINKIES = In-store smartsource coupons near product, usually from red blinking box
BOGO or B1G1F = Buy One Get One Free
CAT or CATALINA = coupon dispensed at register after purchase
DOUBLE COUPON = coupon that a grocery store doubles in value
ECB = CVS Extra Care Bucks earned for purchases
FREE ITEM COUPON = A coupon that allows you to get the product completely free
MFG = Manufacturer’s Coupon
MIR = Mail In Rebate
OOP = Out of Pocket
OOS = Out of Stock
OYNO = On your next order
P&G = Proctor & Gamble Sunday supplement coupons
PEELIE = coupon that you peel off the package
Q = Coupon
RC = Raincheck
RP = Red Plum Sunday Supplement Coupons
RR = Register Rewards
SS = Smart Source or Sunday Supplement coupons
STACKING = Using a store specific coupon with a MFG coupon (most stores allow this)
TEARPAD = A pad of refund forms or coupons found hanging from a store shelf or display
TRIPLE COUPON = a coupon that a grocery store triples in value
WYB = When You Buy

$1/1 would mean $1 off of 1 product. It goes from there.

Free Gum and Medicine -CVS

Woah! So today I went to CVS and picked up 15 packs of the new Trident "Layers" gum along with 2 NyQuil and 2 Theraflus for a moneymaker of $4!

I was able to use a combined 14 different BOGO, $1/2 and $0.75/1 coupons for the gum, $1.50/1 NyQuil and 2 $1.50/1 Theraflu coupons.
I then had a $5/30 CVS Coupon and a $10 ECB from a previous purchase.
My total came to $11 and I got $15 back in ECBs. I saved $40!
I can really use all of this, too. We LOVE gum, especially since both Adam and I are doing Medifast now - it helps a lot. I'm very prepared for the inevitable colds we'll end up getting now, so that's good. (Although, I'm hoping that taking my Vitamin C every day will ward off any flu!).

You can take advantage of this deal, too!
Right now if you buy $20 in select Cold/Flu Medicines you get $10 in ECBs. They had $1.50/1 Theraflu coupons in the store,but you can print some even better ones out!
Deal:
Buy 2 Theraflu at $6, use $2/1 coupon.
Buy 1 Boiron at $9, use $2/1 coupon
Use $5/$20 CVS purchase (Make sure you give this coupon first!)
Total before- $21
After coupons and $10 ECB - $0!!! AKA - FREE.
(To get the $5/$20, "peel" away the messages with your mouse... uses a lot of ink, though.)
Good luck shopping!

Make Money!

Now that you're saving money... why don't you start making some extra as well? There are a few easy ways to bring in a little extra income here and there without having to do too much work. Every link I give you leads you to a legitimate company. I have personally used each one of these companies and have recieved compensation for whatever work I've done.

My favorite is SwagBucks. You literally make money just by doing your normal web searching! You earn "Swag Bucks" which, when added up, can be traded for gift cards, merchandise, clothing, music, etc. I've gotten quite a few $5 Amazon gift cards, which I love!

Inbox Dollars is also a great and easy site to earn some extra cash. You get paid to read e-mails, take surveys, shop online, etc.

Cashbaq and Ebates - Get cash back on everything you spend online. Each site also lists the most current online coupons that you can use in conjunctionw it the percentage you're getting back. Just for signing up you get a $5 bonus!

Coupons, the Real Deal

Coupons have been around for years. Some of us have probably grown up watching our mother's carefully clip them out of the Sunday paper every week and never go to the store without them. Others have possibly only used a coupon for a BOGO (buy one get one free) meal at their favorite restaurant a few times. No matter your relationship with the infamous Coupon, one can still appreciate a good savings! So, here is the Real Deal on COUPONS.

Where can I get coupons?
Here, there and everywhere!

Subscribe to your local Sunday newspaper. Minus a few holiday papers, there is always at least one coupon insert in each paper. I suggest never paying more than $2 a paper.
You can purchase them. I know, it sounds counter-productive, but it actually can be extremely helpful!
The Coupon Master is one of my favorite places to buy coupons I need. They charge a few cents per coupon, which is covering their time to find and clip each one. Ordering coupons gives you the ability to get multiples of what you really need without having to buy extra papers! Search the Recycled! Where I live, on Wednesdays, the recycling bin for old newspapers is packed full of coupon inserts no one wanted. I exchange my paper for the inserts. Sometimes you have to really search - but it's worth it!
Get Coupons at the Store! Keep your eyes open for coupons throughout the aisles of the store your shopping in. Pick up a few and save for later if they're not usable then.
Online!
Coupons.com restocks every month with new (and often very valuable) coupons that you can print out twice per computer. Many brand names offer coupons through their websites that you can also print.

Finally - you can do what I often do. Write into companies and explain to them that you are a coupon user and love their product. Many times they will send back an envelope full of great valuable coupons!

Start Saving TODAY.

I love seeing the before and afters of my total bill at checkout. Sometimes I've only had to pay out 7 cents for over $40 in products! God is good. He teaches us to be good stewards of our money, no matter how much or little we have. Where it can be so hard to earn money, it can be so easy to spend it!
In March of 09, a good friend of mine introduced me to the world of couponing, blogging sites filled with goodies on how to save money, and the world of FREE. She told me that she was spending an average of $50/wk on food for her family of 5 and I was amazed. Here I was, shelling out over $120/ wk on food for my family of 4, and she could live on $50, with a pantry of cereals, soups, canned goods, etc?! I didn't have a stocked pantry or full freezer, how could I afford to? I quickly realized I was not shopping wisely. I was making a list, going to the grocery store, paying full price for everything, and then adding extra things into my basket without even realizing it. Grocery stores weren't the only companies getting my extra dollars. Supercenters, department stores, drug stores... they were all getting our hard earned money for their over priced items. I had to fix this.
So, starting in March, my friend helped me come up with a better budget. She kept me up to date on the latest and greatest deals, taught me how to use coupons and stores to their full potential, to get the most out of our dollar. I was so excited to be getting things for free, I tried to save in every catagory at once. I quickly realized I needed to work on one thing at a time, so, I started with my grocery budget. I soon moved onto drug stores, such as CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens.
It has taken time, but since March, I have been able to literally cut my grocery bill in half. I spend an average of $65/wk on food and come home with so much more than I used to. I never pay for toothpaste/toothbrushes/shampoo/body wash anymore. I walk in a store and pay $5, and end up getting $10 back. It's such a blessing!

I would like to share with you how you can start the steps to saving your hard earned money and making your dollar s-t-r-e-t-c-h! I will also share with you ways you can start earning money here and there from the comfort of your own home. Stay tuned!
